Global AutoCorrect - FAQs
General
Will it work in all programs?
Global AutoCorrect will correct your spelling in all Windows programs (e.g. for essays or reports, emails, presentations, surfing the internet, etc.). The only exceptions are some video games which deliberately block the methods the program uses. You can also choose to exclude a particular program from Global AutoCorrect if you don't want your spelling corrected in it.

Do I have to be dyslexic?
Global AutoCorrect is 'assistive software', designed solely to address the specific needs of people with dyslexia. But, as with a lot of assistive software, it can be a huge benefit for non-dyslexic people as well.

How will Global AutoCorrect improve my spelling?
Without this software, you might correct spelling as you go or try to leave it until the end, and then be overwhelmed with multiple and repeated mistakes. It can be very difficult to focus on improving spelling when you're trying to concentrate on your ideas or you have so many errors to correct.
With Global AutoCorrect, you can focus on your top misspellings – the ones that are important for you. And you can work on them in your own time, without the distraction of trying to get your ideas down. You spend less time correcting your spelling and more time improving it.

Can't Microsoft Word do this?
No. Microsoft Word and other word processors can automatically correct your spelling, but Global AutoCorrect does much more.
1. It's “global” - Global AutoCorrect works across all programs (email, web, word processors, etc.). Once you've added an entry in one program it will be corrected in everything else.
2. It helps you learn - Global AutoCorrect lists your top mistakes so that you can print them and work on them in your own time.
3. Pre-loaded entries - Global AutoCorrect comes with over 6000 AutoCorrect entries, and more are automatically downloaded from us, so you don't have to add so many of your misspellings.

Using Global AutoCorrect
Can I add my own spelling mistakes?
Absolutely. It's really easy, too! Just select the incorrect word in any program and press F2. A box comes up suggesting the correct word. You click on the word and it'll always be corrected as you type. And if you're not sure which suggestion is correct, there are definitions and examples to help make sure you get the right one.

Can I edit or delete AutoCorrect entries?
Yes. It's very simple to do these and other actions from Global AutoCorrect's main window.
Close
Can I stop it correcting my spelling?
Yes. You can pause Global AutoCorrect, which stops it making any corrections. You can also disable Global AutoCorrect for any particular program (e.g. instant messaging programs).

Do I have to download new AutoCorrect entries?
It's up to you. You can set options such as this when you install Global AutoCorrect, and also via the 'options' window.

Concerns
Will it correct my spelling to the wrong word?
If you try to add an ambiguous entry, Global AutoCorrect will show a warning. You will be warned for words that sound the same as each other (homophones), such as “tee/tea” and “to/too/two”. Warnings are also shown for confusable words, such as “very/vary” and “prince/prints”.

But I misspell the same thing lots of different ways!
That's fine. You can just add a new entry for each way you spell a word. For example:
“rimember” to “remember”
“remeber” to “remember”
“remenber” to “remember”
“rememba” to “remember”
You only have to add each of these once and they will always be corrected.

Will it interfere with a program's own AutoCorrect feature?
No. If you have AutoCorrect entries in, for example, Microsoft Word and Global AutoCorrect, the Global AutoCorrect entry will always take priority.

Miscellaneous
Do I have to pay VAT?
There is an option to claim VAT relief during the purchasing process. You may consider yourself to have a disability (e.g. dyslexia). A disability is defined as having a substantial long-term adverse effect on your ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities. If this is the case, you are eligible for VAT relief and can purchase our software without paying VAT. This is because our software is designed for use solely by disabled people, and is in accordance with HMRC Notice 701/7.
